The recent hike to fares had been negatively anticipated by many commuters, especially those studying across the nation.

TFL made the announcement earlier this March, to the dismay of many commuters.

Megan, a student of City, university of London, said: ‘It’s funny isn’t it, how such small numbers can be so big on your finances.’

“The rent here in Zone 2, is already ludicrous as it is, and taking the tube is a daily occurrence for me so it really does feel like, my wallet is constantly being drained.’

The costs are in line with inflation, which has been increasing more in recent years.

Many students, say with the rising costs, public transport feels more like a luxury than it is a necessity.

Another student, Harry, from the Roehampton vale campus of Kingston University, dubbed the travel increase as ‘typical’.

“ I mean it feels like that; every time you enter a shop, it feels like something has increased in price.”

“It feels even more insulting, considering it’s train travel of all things, they’re never on time.”

The automotive engineering student, added it seemed his train transport was more consistently delayed, opposed to being on time.

It was revealed that last year 1 in 25 services were cancelled last year, with over 215,000 trains being cancelled last year.

Many found their frustrations aimed at rail workers, with many of the public referring to them including; ‘greedy’ and ‘ungrateful’.

A member of the public within Tooting, who wished not to be identified, named the situation as a ‘laughing stock.’

“They’re working four days a week and earning over 70k a year. They don’t even have to do much, most of these trains have automatic features, nowadays.”

“They’re earning more than most, yet it’s always them complaining and striking.”

While Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London has pledged to keep London bus and tram fares frozen until 2026, many aren’t amused.
