Residents in Edmonton green flats have faced ongoing problems with local school kids who deface and loiter in the flats, the problems have been going on for a while, but many residents notice a spike in antisocial behaviour and believe it is cased by the faulty doors in the building which have been left open on multiple occasions.
Efforts have been made by the council to prevent the loitering by putting up signs warning trespassers that police officers patrol the area, and closure orders, starting from November 2025 have been placed around the building but residents say they don’t help, Sadiyah khodabuskus local of five years said “ all the attempts to scare of these kids don’t do anything, they probably don’t even see the signs”. In the past there have been more direct attempts with security being placed by the doors during the times the students would be around but over time they left, and the students would return and continue to vandalise the building.
Residents like Ahmed Aii blame the lack of efforts to protect the buildings on the council saying “the council isn’t actually making an effort to help us, they put up a couple signs and hope it helps when it doesn’t.” efforts have been made by the community to try and prevent others from entering the building but they haven’t had much effect on preventing the loiterers.
With the students loitering around the buildings there has also been an increase in vandalism with the walls of the staircases having holes punched into them and graffiti covering some, residents also notice what they describe to be the smell of marijuana an illegal drug in the UK raising concerns over potential crimes that could be taking place “we feel like we cant even take the stairs anymore because that is where the like to hang around.” Said Ahmed Abii . along with concerns over potential drug usage in the building many residents also noticed a rise in missing packages with some residents taking to putting up signs warning delivery drivers to deliver to doors instead of the mail room to try and prevent theft.
Many residents concerns for the building comes from an accident that happened years back in 2014 with a resident and young boy who got into an altercation resulting in the death of the resident via stabbing.
